For Five
Manhasset, NY

You can’t tell me this doesn’t look INSANE! These are definitely not your average batch of cookies. For Five is a cafe with locations all around New York City and their Long Island location is in Manhasset. This cafe has adapted well to COVID by adding outdoor tables. They allow indoor seating, but the food is unfortunately given in a to-go container. (I asked if my food could be served on a plate since I was taking pictures for my food blog, but they refused and said I needed an appointment to get my food served on a plate. Odd, but what can you do.) The food was delicious. Warm cinnamon churro pancakes with a cinnamon chocolate glaze, lots of cinnamon sugar, and a topping of horchata ice cream. They came with four pancakes! Also, the mermaid acai bowl was excellent. The presentation was great even in the takeout containers. It had hints of banana and was topped with frozen blueberries, frozen grapes, coconut chips, and a white chocolate shell. So tasty! And now for the best part. Their cookies. For Five has some of the best cookies I have ever had. They have such unique flavors and are kept warm to be served ooey and gooey. Today I had the fruity pebbles, rainbow, chocolate chunk, and apple pie. The apple pie truly tasted like a warm apple pie, but as a cookie so even better! The rainbow is this amazing sugar cookie stuffed with warm cookie dough, wow I’m drooling. The chocolate chunk is a decadent chocolate cookie with all different types of chocolate. And the fruity pebbles is a pink sugar cookie with pieces of fruity cereal one it and stuffed a fruity pebbles cheesecake filling. I can’t even pick a favorite because I love them all!! I can’t wait to go back to try the funfetti, red velvet, and strawberries and cream! Also, their menu is changing very soon so lookout for new items! Maybe I’ll see you there!

The Shed
Huntington, NY

The Shed in Huntington, where to begin. This restaurant has been on my list for such a long time now. After months of drooling over pics of their brunch on Instagram, I finally made it over there! The place was so crowded with so many people wanting to also try it, it was obvious this place was going to be good because down the street there were places with almost nobody in them. The Shed has the waiting procedure down pat: you give your name to an employee on an Ipad outside the restaurant and they send you a text message with your estimated wait time and will alert you via text when your table is ready, so you have the ability to walk around Huntington or wait in your car. The wait is pretty lengthy averaging about an hour, but it was worth it. I ordered the most amazing french toast. It was thick brioche french toast topped with fresh bananas, brown sugar, and a side of maple syrup. Personally, I don’t usually like maple syrup but this one was so good! It was like a sweet sugary topping with a hint of maple rather than that overpowering artificial maple flavor. The french toast had a nice soft center and was so delightful. It was the best french toast I have had in a long time, and that is saying something. The waffles also were magnificent. They had the crispy outside with a softer center and a delicious dusting of powdered sugar and blueberries. The eggs were also perfect: light and airy and paired with perfectly crisp home fries. The cappuccino was also delicious. Strong, velvety, and a great start to my morning. The waiter tried to make a little bunny that didn’t quite work, but A for effort. The staff was also kind and attentive and the food was incredible. I highly recommend coming to the shed snd getting some brioche french toast! You won’t regret it!

The Lakehouse
Bayshore, NY

The next stop on the foodie tour is The Lakehouse in Bayshore. They’re participating in Long Island restaurant week snd they’re food is delicious! The Lakehouse is right by the Fire Island Ferry and is located directly on the water. They give you the option of sitting inside or on an outdoor deck. The staff was very nice and the tables seemed to be socially distanced well. To start, the clam chowder was excellent. In my opinion, Clam chowder is a dish that can be either really good or really bad, and I was happily surprised. But, if you like mushroom risotto this one is the one to get! It was so flavorful snd had pieces of asparagus throughout the dish. For dinner on the price fixed menu, I recommend the roasted chicken. The chicken was so tender and juicy. It had so much flavor and was paired with charred brussels sprouts and had a brioche and sausage stuffing. This was a unique take and I really enjoyed it. My favorite part, Dessert! All three desserts offered were amazing. The donuts were served piping hot and dusted with cinnamon. They weren’t at all greasy and were so light and airy. They were served with a side of jam and cream cheese frosting. Both were so delicious and paired so nicely with the donuts. The chocolate pot de creme was like a fancy decadent pudding. It was so luscious and smooth. It was then topped with a delicious meringue and a crunchy cookie tweel. And lastly, the apple caramel cheesecake. This was a delicious mini cheesecake with crunchy cookie crumbs on top and a swipe of caramel on the plate. All the food was so so good, this is a place to try this restaurant week!

Morton's The Steakhouse

Morton's The Steakhouse
Great Neck, NY

It’s my favorite week, restaurant week! To my non- native Long Island readers, here on Long Island, it’s restaurant week, the week where I get to try new, or just some of my fave restaurants and sample a variety of foods without breaking the bank. I started off this week with a bang, steak! Personally, I believe this week makes the most sense to try to dig out the more expensive restaurants or ones serving more costly entrees, for instance, steak. Morton’s 6oz filet is priced as $49, but this week for $45 you get an appetizer, entree, side, and dessert. For my appetizer, I chose the five onion soup. It was so cold out so this warm, flavorful soup was the perfect choice. It had the delicious cheese topping giving you that ooey gooey cheese pull moment. For my entree, I chose the 6oz filet. It was cooked perfectly, had great flavor, and was so tender. I chose creamed spinach for my side, I feel like it was just such a classic steak side. I also tried the mashed potatoes and corn, both were also excellent. For dessert, my party and I shared the three dessert options: Creme Brûlée, Key Lime Pie, and Morton’s Legendary Molton Chocolate Lava Cake. The chocolate cake was an upgrade, but it’s worth it. Morton’s was one of the first places to have this famous cake. It had the perfect cake outside snd the middle was oozing with hot chocolate. Yum! And served with a side of vanilla ice cream, the perfect pairing. The creme brûlée had the perfect crunch from the sugar topping. the layer wasn’t too thick, which was amazing. The creme brûlée had such a velvety rich texture and a strong delicious vanilla flavor. I really enjoyed it. The key lime pie also did not disappoint. It had a tasty graham cracker crust and smooth thick filling and a topping of yummy whipped cream. The whole meal was magnificent, check out Morton's next time you’re looking for steak!

Besito
Roslyn, NY

Taco ‘bout yum! I just had a secTACOular dinner at Besito Roslyn. The food snd the vibe of the restaurant is authentic yet trendy. They have a ton of outdoor seating along with normal indoor dining. To start we had to get the guac! It is so so good here: fresh, flavorful, and customized to your liking. Usually, the guacamole is made tableside, but today it was made aside of a table, just not mine. (lol) But, I totally understand and appreciate their covid-19 precautions. Still, the guacamole was so good. Instead of the guacamole chef asking mild, medium, or spicy, the waitress did, and then the completed deliciousness was brought to the table. The chips and salsa on the table are also fantastic. You have the option of asking for veggies on the side if you want a healthier option. They served jicama but beware this is quite expensive jicama. The chips are so delicious you really don’t even need the veggies tonight; the chips have the perfect amount of salt and crisp snd are not at all oily. For my entree, I got the Mixtos Iron skillet tacos. Traditionally, it is served with Chicken, steak, and chorizo but I’m not the biggest fan of chorizo so they were very accommodating and made mine with just chicken snd steak. It is served in a piping hot iron skillet oozing with cheese. Literally what can be better?! It comes with two salsa- like sauces, a side salad containing tomatoes and other fresh, tasty ingredients, warm flour tortillas in the cute little covered basket, and lastly rice and beans for the table. Everything had such great balanced flavors and I loved the customization of the skillet tacos. Also, the el dorado fish was pan-seared Market Fish, crusted in crab & blue corn tortilla topped with sweet corn atole, chayote, tomatillo con crema, and cilantro. This was amazing. It was a fresh flaky fish snd had the perfect broiled crispy skin, something I love. It was light yet so filling. In addition, we ordered the side of street corn and this was by far a fantastic decision. The corn was served off the cob- perfect for sharing. The corn had a grilled char, some seasoning, and topped with cheese. I have had many versions of Mexican street corn and Besito's is unmatched. Everything really was so tasty. When it came time for dessert, the waitress said they had no dessert. I found this quite odd, but they continued their tradition of ending the night with a bag of hot churros for the table and worry dolls to put under your pillow to get rid of all the bad dreams. I was really happy to see that even though they weren’t serving dessert they continued with these little details. It is something so unique and makes them stand out. If you’re looking for some specTACOular Mexican food, try Besito!

Famous Food Festival

Famous Food Festival
Walt Whitman Mall

Calling all my foodies! Well, you’re probably already here if you have discovered my blog. It has been difficult to find fun outdoor activities that are safe and open with the pandemic still occurring. I have found one for you and it of course involves food! At the Walt Whitman Mall, there is a six-week food festival happening where a variety of food trucks and stands come and sell their unique and delicious foods. The best part is the free entry! If I’m being honest, I really only came for Bona Bona Ice Cream but since I was going I had to try out a bunch of other vendors. Let’s start with the main event or my main event, Bona Bona. If you haven’t heard of Bona Bona they are an ice cream shop in Port Chester, NY known for their freshly toasted meringue topping on their imaginative ice cream flavors. This treat looks like a show stopper and tastes even better! I got the limited edition Spiced Pumpkin Blonde Ice cream. It had lots of large blonde pieces. Oooo.... it was so so good! They also had Chocolate B-Dough which had brownie and cookie dough, Italian Rainbow Cookie, Smores, and a bunch of others! Bona Bona is usually at Shmorgasburg in Brooklyn and if you’re lucky you can catch them at other fairs or rent them for parties! Next, I tried Emily’s Apple Puffs. This vendor takes zeppoles to a whole new level! I got wait for it... Fried. Rainbow. Cookies. This was insane! Hot dough filled with a delicious rainbow bookie and a fresh dusting of powdered sugar. Wow! Heating the cookie really enhanced the traditional cookie’s flavor. They also had churros, Funnel cakes, Fried Poptarts, Fried Twinkies, and Fried PB & J. Next up, Crepes and Bakes. This was a crepe truck, serving up both sweet and savory options. I tried the Apple brown sugar crepe which tasted exactly like a delicious apple pie! And one more stop for me, Napoli Pastry Co. They had a variety of Italian desserts like tiramisu, sfogalitelle, and cannolis. Their cannolis were crazy! They offered regular, chocolate, pistachio, cappucino, and birthday cake. They, unfortunately, ran out of birthday cake but the pistachio and cappuccino were delicious. There were a bunch of other vendors that I was just too full to try, but if anyone tried the Mac and Cheese in a cone please let me know how it is!!! Everything I ate at the Famous Food Festival was spectacular. Lastly, I just want to mention that if you are going for a specific vendor do your research. The advertising is slightly confusing, making it seem like every vendor will be there on all days the event is occurring which isn’t true. Not all vendors will be there all weekend so be careful, but if the vendor you want isn’t there I’m sure you will be just as happy with one of the other delights!

Gastronomy Restaurant

Gastronomy Restaurant
Huntington, NY

Shopping is my cardio and as you know exercise makes you hungry. Iv got the perfect hidden gem for you to refuel at so you can truly shop ‘til you drop. Gastronomy by Cirella's is a restaurant inside Sacks Fifth Avenue in the Walt Whitman Mall. This restaurant serves it all: weekend breakfast, salads, sandwiches, zoodles, warm bowls, sushi, poke bowls, and delicious desserts like cobblers and froyo! It has been here a few times and every time I am impressed. I have ordered eggs which were light and airy, sushi which was fresh and delicious. They have unique rolls and apps like the green apple which is a spicy tuna avocado ball, looking similar to an apple. I have also gotten their warm bowls which were fantastic. Today I tried the zoodles and wow this was great. Zoodles have become increasingly popular over the past years, but have now been slightly overshadowed by the magnificent cauliflower which has truly been dominating every food establishment with their crazy new trends and versatility. Luckily Gastronomy didn’t lose hope in the poor Zoodles. I have never seen such creativity with zoodles, usually, it’s the same marinara sauce, and if you're lucky the restaurant throw in some shrimp. Here, they had three options: Cripsy Chicken Scamp (chicken cutlet, broccoli, spinach, garlic, lemon, white wine, butter, parsley), Lemon Basil ( asparagus, peas, smoked ham, SDT, parmesan cheese, lemon breadcrumbs), and what I tried the Asian Chicken. This delicious meal had grilled chicken, sesame orange glaze, carrots, broccoli, scallion. There weren’t too many ingredients, which was great because you could really enjoy each flavor. It had a little kick and was a nice warm meal for the chilly fall weather we have been having. This restaurant has a dish for everyone! Next time you’re shopping or just in the area looking for a spot to eat try Gastronomy!

Mission Taco
Huntington, NY

Seven days without tacos makes one weak. happy Friday! let’s celebrate with some TACOS!! Today I tried a fairly new restaurant opening about a year ago called Mission Taco. This restaurant is located on a vibrant street with so many restaurants, people, and even music. The interior was beautiful and trendy: having unique lighting, a colorful day of the dead- like mural, and a neon sign that reads “feed me tacos and tell me I’m pretty.” I really enjoyed all of the details and decorations. I felt as if I was eating in New York City (just with better prices)! Everything was so delicious! Starting with the complimentary chips and salsa. Fresh warm chips with a flavorful traditional Mexican pairing. Also, the tacos were great, stuffed to the max. They had a bit of spice that was balanced perfectly. They also have magnificent bowls- one with rice and one with quinoa. If you’d like you can add a protein of your choice. I added steak, it was tender and flavorful. At the end of the meal, I was so stuffed but had to order the churro bites. These crispy delights were covered in cinnamon sugar snd served hot aside or caramel and chocolate. I enjoyed my entire meal and will be returning shortly!

Spiga Bakery
Bellmore, NY

I cannoli imagine how jealous you are right now! And, sorry not sorry you are only going to get even more jealous. This beauty is a pistachio cannoli cream mousse with a cannoli cream shell. The rich pistachio ganache-like top is the perfect pair to the always amazing sweet ricotta based delight. It was thick, creamy, and a dream. I loved the crust it gave you the crunch to balance the creamy layers and was the perfect addition so there was no missing of cannoli creams perfect pair. Its a risk to take a unique twist on the traditional treat, but Spiga's version was a success.

Kith Treats
Kith x Poptarts

I was so excited when I heard Kith Treats, Manhasset reopened! Kith Treats takes your favorite cereals and toppings and swirls it into vanilla ice cream, creating this delicious treat. You can choose your favorite toppings, choose a celebrity’s combo, or sometimes they offer specials, like today. Today I tried their collaboration with Poptarts and wow this was incredible. I had the choice of the brown sugar cinnamon or the classic strawberry. I had a hard time choosing but went with strawberry. It was a great choice. This combo included vanilla ice cream, cheesecake pieces, and of course strawberry Poptarts. It was so refreshing and was still a decadent treat but the burst of strawberry flavor lightened it up. If you haven’t been, I suggest trying it!
